Mar 18 Taking technology to new heights is Aban Informatics.
Its recently launched Classontheweb.com is an internet portal that caters to school children, parents and teachers. The portal delivers curriculum based information for standards V to XII. The visitor will at first register to access, then set his/her preference to the syllabus/board and finally make the choice of the subject. The main focus is on the fundamentals of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology curricula using animations that will enable 'cognitive acceleration'. Specially developed proprietary
technology makes possible the creation of large sized animations of very small byte size, enabling delivery of animated educational content over very small bandwidth lines. This is not to replace the teacher or the classroom but is to be used complementary to the existing system. Since this is a very explicit visual medium, key concepts could be put across to students in a simple way. At the moment, the focus is only
on Mathematics and Science. At 'Classontheweb', the student may get to see many things that would otherwise not be possible - like witnessing the actual working of the internal combustion engine. The site will be updated daily - improving animation, changing the visuals, adding content etc., Students would log on to
Classontheweb as they would find that learning has been made simple and understandable because of the graphical presentation. A virtual library of guidebooks will be available for web access or for online purchase from the portal. Downloading a lesson would be easy, as the download size is small - just 2K. Aban's
future projects include web space for teaching special students, online practicals, online PTA, model exams, question papers for the last five years of medicine/ IIT/ engineering entrance exams, homework wizard and many other innovative ways of making learning an interesting experience. -NIMI KURIAN www.strategicnewspapers.com
